Still Life

A still life is defined as a work of art depicting an inanimate object.  Laura Letinsky is Canadian photographer who is known for her still life photographs. In most of her photographs she is consistent with a white background and an interesting object that poses a question.  For an example one of her picture was of a pudding cup with a spoon left in it and a stream of light across the table.  I like this one because it reminded me of a little kid who left there pudding to go do something else.  A question one could ask is why he left it? What would break a little kid from the enjoyment of pudding?!

I really like this still life because it is different and unique. I think the resourcefulness of the photographer was great and clearly shown in the photograph.  I really like the texture of the picture and how the yellow jumps off the background.  I also love how if you look closer you can see the diversity of the objects that make up the background.  This photograph also poses many questions with just the one letter, "Y". The interpretation of the letter or even the actual question "why?" leaves the picture very open ended and therefore can apply to more audiences.

For my final project photography I would like to make a collection of objects that all together create an emotional and thought provoking picture.  I want my one still life picture to tell a story or as the cliche says: "1,000 words".
